The Details

Autumn is a season that can feel much longer than its three-month arc. In that short stretch, we move through the harvest time, Samhain/Day of the Dead passages, Indigenous/Thanksgiving days, and three full weeks of December that house numerous religious and pagan traditions—a wildly varying mix of energies.

Each of these thresholds, separately and together, encourages you to strengthen your relationship to the West, align with your intuition and the unseen realms. Westward will anoint you, body and soul, as you minister to the mixed and many demands of this transitional season.

The Ritual

Use 1-2 pumps. Warm between the hands and apply in generous circles to the heart or belly as you turn toward the West and call in the wisdom of Autumn.

Month One : The Harvest
The first month of autumn welcomes us to the harvest. A time of gathering and releasing, separating the wheat from the chaff as the sun sets gently to the West. Reaping the bounty of our summer efforts, celebrating all that we’ve cultivated and grown. Then letting go, clearing the field of what doesn’t need to be carried forward into the next season.

Month Two : The Surrender
As the days grow notably shorter and we approach All Hallows’ Eve, we’re drawn closer to loved ones passed, ancestors that came before us. A period when we do well to listen for wisdom outside ourself, turn Westward and ask for guidance from the spirits who can teach us a few things about letting go of our wish to control. Month Three : The Preparation
Winter is just around the corner. December’s fullness often conspiring to draw us away from the sacred call to slow and simplify—to orient downward, give over to the impending underground alchemy. A time for us to turn West, watch for the stars that will guide us through this final segment of autumn, prepare us well for winter.
